HMD Global launched its first Nokia branded Android Smartphone, and thus Nokia makes a comeback in the market. The new custodians HMD Global unveiled Nokia 6 initially in China at the beginning of this year and were available in other parts of the market after few months. Nokia 6 has already created a lot of buzz in the Indian market as Amazon India claims over one million registrations received for this phone on its first sale. Out of all the three Smartphone’s Nokia has earlier launched this one indeed seems to be a comeback device for the company. Nokia has always been appreciated for its sturdy and reliable machines, and this is something which has made people connect with Nokia without any second thought. Nokia 6 is one in the league which is believed to live up to Indian mobile customer’s expectations.

  • Design

Nokia 6 ships in a playful retail box which reminds of old Nokia days and the phone offers a complete slid look when you hold it in your hands as the company claims that it has been created from a single piece of 6000 series aluminum. It means that the phone is being designed to survive any minor drops. Though the hardback makes the phone slippery and it is recommended to use a back cover once you buy it. The device weighs 169g, and it is not one of the slimmest phones in the market, but yet with a 5.5-inch screen, Nokia has done justice with the design and weight.

As usual, the power and the volume buttons are on the right and a 3.5 mm audio jack at the peak while the charging port and dual speakers are on the bottom of the phone. The device comes with a hybrid double SIM tray which can fit two Nano SIM, but the user has to choose between a second SIM and a microSD card. The fingerprint sensor on the front panel also acts as a home button. The primary camera at the back brings memories of the Nokia Lumia camera, and the camera which has a single sensor is accompanied by a dual tone flash thus a back cover is an urgent need.

Screen

The 5.5-inch screen has decent brightness and colors are crisp however this phone has no LED indicator for notifications, and overall the design of the phone is good looking into the market competition. The phone comes with a power adaptor, a charging cable, earphones, a SIM ejector tool, general documentation and the phone itself.

Though the colors are beautiful and bright and text appears to be crisp and sharp. However one would miss that deep black which you get with the AMOLED screen frequently found in the high-end Samsung Smartphones.

Performance

This phone comes with 435 CPU Snapdragon however one gets to witness lag and one can feel it more while browsing through websites and image-heavy apps like Instagram. Nokia should have lowered the screen resolution or at least should have updated the phone with Snapdragon 6 series range to justify the 5.5-inch screen. It could have made a big difference to the performance, but then Nokia would have to raise the price of the phone.

The phone is loaded with 3 GB RAM which is sufficient and only when there is active RAM management needs to be done this 3 GB seems insufficient however there is the provision of expanding it up to 32 GB through a microSD slot. The speaker sits next to the Micro USB slot and using Dolby mode one may boost its audio quality. Call Quality and Wi-Fi performance seem to be okay however it lacks the noise cancellation feature.

Software

Nokia is working closely with Google, and the phone comes with Google suite of apps installed as well as The Pixel Launcher. The phone comes with good OS, and it is up to date on Android 7.1.1.

Camera

After the performance, this phone lacks the most in its camera quality. The Nokia 6 comes with a 16-megapixel sensor on the back with a f/2.0 lens and 8-megapixel f/2.0 selfie shooter on the front. Daytime pictures are captured beautiful, but too much sun movement may not offer many satisfying results. The camera struggles with low light shots where the dual tone LED flash doesn’t support much.

Battery Life

The phone comes with 3000mAh battery which is sufficient for this phone, and it takes three hours to charge it via a Micro USB cable fully.  One full charge supports 405 hours of screen time, and then the phone needs to be recharged.

Overall Nokia 6 is a durable phone with clean Android software and decent battery life and just at the right price. If you are an average user and looking for a phone with not many expectations, Nokia 6 is the phone for you. It can be defined as a perfect budget Smartphone.
